Itinerary

Day 1: Back to Puerto Maldonado Flight to Cusco – Cusco City tour

Early in the morning you will return to Madre de Dios River gather your supplies and take the boat back to Puerto Maldonado. At the airport we have a small breakfast and then fly to Cusco.

At your arrival in Cusco: City Tour. After lunch you will be going for a City tour around Cusco City area. Take your Student card (if you have) to get your Boleto Turístico with student price. The Cathedral, Inca Palaces and other important historical areas will be part of this special tour.

Day 2: Sacred Valley of the Incas

After Breakfast we take a car to enjoy the early lights of the sun over the cyclopean stones of Sacsayhuaman some of them weight over 300 tons.

Near is another archaeological complex: Qènqo, then we continue to Tambo Machay. This is our chance to learn about Andean Religion and organization.

We continue going up over the pass and later to enjoy the view of the Sacred Willca Mayu know also as Urubamba passing the little villages until we reach Pisac with a colourful market and impressive archaeological remains from Inca times.

After this visit we will stop at a nice restaurant to get our lunch. Then we continue to visit the last Inca alive town Ollantaytambo, where we also get a bit of exercise up steep stairs and small trails. We take a different road to get back to Cusco. In the way we pass by Chinchero a small town with an amazing colonial church, a little market and friendly people.

Day 3

We start early with a bus trip to Ollantaytambo to start the famous INCA TRAIL.

We have a long walk on this first day, but the path is not steep and we will be able to enjoy the scenery and our stops for lunch and snacks. In the afternoon we will arrive in the little village of Wuayllabamba, where we camp.

Day 4

Another early start. This is considered to be the hardest day because of the steep walk to the first Pass Warmiwuañusca 4200 mts. But don’t worry, as we will have plenty of time to enjoy the climb. We will camp at Sayacmarca, an interesting archaeological site in an amazing location.

Day 5

We can sleep in this morning -- Machu Picchu is getting closer and the Inca Trail winds around a perfect stone-paved road with stairs beautifully cut into the rock. There are many different microclimates -- cloud forest, grasslands, high-jungle vegetation, orchids and birds are everywhere along the trail.

We’ll spend the night at Wiñay Wayña, which is very close to Machu Picchu.

Day 6

Starting early, we will walk for 2 hours to get to the Inti Punku (Sun Gate), where we will enjoy our first view of Machu Picchu -- an incredible sight. We will enjoy the pleasure of being the first of the day to arrive in this magnificent city, before the many other tourists that arrive from Cusco by train. We’ll spend the whole day enjoying this marvelous place. We can recover from the hike in the evening in the hot mineral baths at Aguas Calientes.

Train back to Cusco

Day 7

We take the train back to Cusco (vistadome) a 6-hour cultural and scenic journey. In the afternoon you can rest, do laundry, or mail letters. To say farewell to Cusco we can have a good dinner with great regional music.

Day 8: Flight back to Lima
